Do your students love school?   Do your students study, conduct research and write stories - on their own initiative, unassigned and after school?  Do you receive a steady stream of phone calls, notes and visits from parents asking,  "What are you doing? My child has never been so excited about school before!"

Are your students learning at extremely high levels?  Are your students' test scores way above those of students in other districts, campuses or classrooms?  Is your classroom virtually free of discipline problems?
It is unbelievably easy, not to mention, FUN, to design and deliver an authentic 21st century curriculum that will achieve extraordinary results, including MTM - More than Mastery - on the CCSS!

Visit the link below to find all the details about this powerful workshop - modeled after an authentic 21st century classroom.  This is not the "sit and get" professional development, but is dynamic, interactive, creative and fun!  Instead of "sitting and getting" you will be analyzing, discussing, creating, designing, assessing, teaching and presenting!  Then you will go home armed with a framework for a project-based, 21st century curriculum that you designed - for your students.

You will be amazed at the results.  Attend this workshop in December and be ready to dazzle your students when school starts in January!

This sounds very interesting. Will you be running a seminar in Toronto, Canada? I am working to design a curriculum program here in the Toronto area based on story telling. I think our perspectives might overlap constructively.

If you have been to my website and thoroughly looked around, you will know that I have animated this Legend of Ponnivala in 26 2D episodes. It is a marvelous epic-length oral story from South India that I collected there with a microphone exactly 50 years ago!

I have just spent eight years revisiting this epic legend because I believe stories can be a powerful tool for student engagement. I also believe that in some cases (notably this one) they can be a great resource for cross-cultural learning. A good story goes much deeper and is far more memorable than just a "food, festival and dress" approach. We are currently experimenting with teaching this epic (or parts of it) in Toronto public school classrooms. My assistant and I are just finishing up a full series of lesson plans for using the first seven episodes of the story at the third grade level. We are linking each lesson plan carefully to the prescribed Ontario curriculum which covers language arts, media arts, science and also math. Many fun activities are included, along with story-telling opportunities and some team-based work assignments. I hope to post these sample lesson plans on the "teachers" area of my website soon.

I also want to mention that this legend works equally well at the university level (and beyond). This is because it is a genuine story that was told to an audience of people of both genders and all ages. It has deep cultural significance and is a "real" legend and not just something made up for kids. The characters are not black and white, but rather come in all shades of grey. Women are heavily featured in significant roles. The Legend of Ponnivala is worthy of erudite academic articles (of which I have written many). But I am passionately interested now in showing that it can also be a very useful learning tool for much more youthful listeners and viewers. The key is in the framing used and the questions posed to stimulate discussion afterwards. Designing fun classroom activities relevant to the age-group in question is also very important to success.
